Because you say, “I am rich, I became rich, and I need nothing,” and you do not know that you are miserable, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. Revelation 3:17

These are the words of Jesus Christ of the Laodicea Church, which were rich in self-sufficiency. History tells us that after an earthquake destroyed their city, the Romanian government offered them money to rebuild. They were so rich that they refused. Although they had a peel of success, they were internally dying and dying. The Laodicans did not see themselves as they were truly “miserable, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.” They stupidly left their first love, loved their precious wealth instead of the Bible. They served the wrong master, and based on the illusion that financial wealth separates them from any need.

Thank God it is not too late for them. Jesus invited them away from idolatry of money and things “to buy refined gold from me with fire until you become rich, and white clothing so that you can wear yourself” (Rev 3:18). He calls himself to Isaiah repeatedly: “He! Whoever thirsts, comes to the water, and you have no money, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost” (Isaiah 55:11). ). He displays his shiny white robes to cover their nakedness, a complete cover for sins and their purification.

Moreover, he says, “I stand at the door and knock; if someone hears my voice and opens the door, I will enter in and have dinner with him while he is with me” (Rev 3:20). This is not an invitation to convert unconverted, but an invitation to renew believers in their relationship to Christ. Sometimes Christ’s followers leave Jesus Christ for other things. The Laodicians were similar to the Ephesians who had left their first love (Rev 2: 4). They had strong theology, corrected orthodoxy and false speakers. They were intolerant of evil and persevered in the glory of Jesus (Rev 2: 2-3). But Jesus scolds them for giving up their first love. By abandoning the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ from anything else, nothing is acquired at all.

If you are thirsty and hungry, give yourself a daily study of Christ Jesus and his Bible in the Bible. Run to him in prayer and obedience and live a pure life. Humbly loved everyone, and poured the other followers of Christ into one of our local churches. And remember, if we are not keen to maintain our focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then we will not be able to “conquer” (Rev 3:21). We know that all of God’s children will persevere until the end of their lives. Christ makes his true followers in his golden children wear white robes. His true followers will be in that golden city, New Jerusalem (Rev 21). He will reshape our world in the new heavens and the new earth, and all the chosen children of Christ will worship Him in His presence forever. Trustworthy!
