9 injured in 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Qinghai, China

Xining. Nine people were injured as of Sunday noon after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Minyuan County in northwest China’s Qinghai Province on Saturday, local authorities said.

Eight of them have been discharged from hospital and one of them has been taken to hospital for medical observation, according to a press conference held by the provincial government on Sunday.

The quake affected a total of 5,831 people in the county, and 65 people from the 16 families whose homes were affected were moved.

A total of 217 houses were severely damaged. Part of the local roads, bridges and water pipes were also damaged to varying degrees.

More than 5,000 people and more than 1,100 vehicles participated in the emergency response after the earthquake.
