Are Maltese buildings ready for earthquakes?

Really interesting topic. But it does not go into depth. In the event of an earthquake, what kind of movement would our Earth be subject to?

I mean, is the tectonic plate we’re standing on breaking apart like the one in the California archetype or is it the kind of collision that forces the Earth to compress and pushes it up vertically as is more common under the sea?

In some countries, tall buildings are literally built on giant steel wagons meant to balance the movements of the ground beneath them.

It is true that intermittently steel beam structures were introduced over the island in high-rise and other buildings. But have any of them been tested?

Modern domestic buildings have largely retained the traditional construction methodology.

“Quickly constructed apartment complexes that do not comply with earthquake-resistant designs are particularly at risk.” What a good opportunity for the construction industry.

Now that practically every corner of Malta is built, let’s begin the phase of dismantling and then constructing buildings strong enough to withstand any seismic event.
