The Banten earthquake in Indonesia destroyed 3,078 homes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Indonesia’s Banten province on January 14 destroyed 3,078 homes. Severe damage was caused to at least 395 of those houses.

The quake also damaged 51 school buildings, 17 health facilities, 8 government offices, 3 commercial places and 21 houses of worship.

Abdul-Mahari, Acting Head of the Data, Information and Communication Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), said Pandeglang Regency suffered the most damage with 379 houses severely damaged.

In Pandeglang, at least two people were seriously injured by the earthquake.

To speed up mitigation efforts in Pandeglang, Abdul said the trustee, Irna Narulita, has set the catastrophic emergency period from January 14 to January 27.
