Magnitude 6.1 earthquake strikes Davao Occidental │ GMA News Online

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck the coastal Sarangani region of Davao Occidental Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

Phivolks said the quake occurred at 10:26 a.m.

The epicenter of the tectonic earthquake was at 03.27°N, 126.67°E – 275 km S and 30°E for Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The earthquake had a depth of 33 km.

Intensity III: Sarangani, Davao Occidental Intensity I: Lebak, Sultan Kudarat

PHIVOLCS said damage is not expected but that aftershocks may occur.

Meanwhile, no tsunami is expected, PHIVOLCS said.

“There is no threat of a devastating tsunami based on the available data. This is for informational purposes only and there is no risk of a devastating tsunami to the Philippines from this earthquake,” it said in its warning.
