Around lunchtime on Thursday, a loud rumble stunned Greenwich residents.

It happened at 12:38:24 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey’s Earthquake Hazards Program, which is responsible for monitoring, reporting and researching earthquakes and earthquake risk.
