Richmond teachers agree to COVID-19 agreement with NBC Bay Area

United Teachers in Richmond has agreed to a preliminary agreement that negotiators reached Jan. 29 with the West Contra Costa Unified School District on additional COVID-19 safety protocols.

A union press release on Friday reported that 93 percent of members approved the agreement, which focuses on personal protective equipment and staff at school sites.

The agreement highlights the following:

The district must provide N95, KN95, and/or KF94 masks daily to students and staff, depending on supply. Medical degree or three-layer masks are required for all students.

When there is a positive case in a classroom, all students and staff enrolled in the class must be tested twice a week for two weeks.

Testing will be made available to all students and staff prior to returning from President’s Week and Spring Break in February and April.

-The district should increase the alternative wage rate and the sub-period rate at the secondary level.

The testing will continue at school sites until the end of the school year.

All teachers and service providers on the school site must be notified of the confirmed positive case on site within 24 hours.
