The earthquake that struck Southern California around 6:30 pm. Wednesday evening was basically a aftershock for last summer’s Ridgecrest earthquake, according to Dr. Seismology. Lucy Jones.

The 5.5 tremor was centered around 10 miles south of the Searles Valley in the Mojave Desert. It originated at a depth of 6.9 km.

“It is indeed a aftershock to the earthquake that occurred last July,” Jones Nich Roman from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said. “It has been 11 months since the major shock, and that’s actually a very common pattern we see. Jones also said that 40,000 earthquakes have occurred in Ridgecrest since last summer.

As it did when the first major earthquake occurred in Ridgecrest last year, Jones reminded everyone that there was a 5% chance of a bigger earthquake.

On July 4, 2019, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Ridgecrest region. A day later, an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck the same region. Successive earthquakes destroyed homes and set ablaze, damaging $ 100 million.

Residents of Ridgecrest and other towns in the Mojave Valley felt aftershocks, including a 4.9-magnitude earthquake on July 12, for weeks.

To date, there are no reports of major damage to Ridgecrest, which is located in the northeastern corner of Kern County, approximately 150 miles from Los Angeles.

It appears that ShakeAlert issued a message about an earthquake on Wednesday night, but it is unclear who received it. Unexpectedly, it seems that most people in Los Angeles didn’t get the alert – but some did.
