Earthquake shakes Las Vegas magazine, Las Vegas Review

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake in California can be felt throughout the Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday evening.

The earthquake occurred at 6:32 pm. About 10 miles south of the Searles Valley in the Mojave Desert, 185 miles west of Las Vegas, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A map from the US Geological Survey showed users who reported their feelings about the earthquake throughout California, from San Diego to the Sacramento area, as well as in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck western Nevada near Tonopa on May 15, damaging the American Highway 95 in several areas.

Wednesday’s earthquake does not appear to have caused damage in southern Nevada. A tweet from the Las Vegas Fire Department said that there were no calls for fire or medical services in the aftermath throughout that of her jurisdiction.

“There were no reports of damage or injuries,” the tweet said. “The earth shook a little. Everything is fine.”

McCarran International Airport did not report any flight disturbances due to the earthquake, and NV Energy did not report any interruption.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude in Ridgecrest, California on July 5, 2019, which can be felt in Las Vegas.

Seismologist Lucy Jones said on Twitter that Wednesday’s earthquake was a possible aftershock of the Ridgecrest earthquake, killing one person and wounding five.

It also left 3,000 people without electricity in Kern County, California, and caused rock slides and gas leaks, requiring the California National Guard to deploy to assist in relief operations.

Even a year later, the US geophysicologist Jana Bursley of the US Geological Survey said, “Wednesday’s earthquake is considered a aftershock because it happened in the same area and looks similar in the characteristics of the main shock and subsequent tremors.”

“The error is stabilizing,” said Persley. “An earthquake of 7.1 causes a lot of movement.”

Wednesday’s earthquake is linked to the strongest aftershocks of the thousands of aftershocks that occurred after the Ridgecrest earthquake. A 5.5 magnitude aftershock occurred on July 6, 2019.
