Shortly after noon, KSBW 8 received several reports of a possible earthquake on the Monterey Peninsula, but according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), no earthquake occurred. The USGS tracks earthquakes all over the world, of all sizes, but the last earthquake they reported – at the time of publication – was a 0.9-magnitude earthquake in Parkfield, California, at 8:09 a.m. It has been called the earthquake capital of the world. It is 96 miles from Pebble Beach. On the popular neighborhood app Nextdoor, people across the peninsula reported feeling something like an earthquake. One user wrote: “A few minutes ago my house shook several short tremors. It was hard and fast enough to make the windows vibrate.” Another wrote: “I thought a tree had fallen nearby because my house was creaking from one end to the other.
