Three earthquakes have been recorded in Cornwall this month.

New data from the British Geological Survey (BGS) has revealed that three different tremors occurred in Carmines, near the Stethians Reservoir, between Redroth and Hillston.

The three earthquakes occurred on February 1, at 12.55 pm, 4.38 pm and 7.49 pm. The earthquakes were recorded in the BGS list of recent earthquakes in the past few days.

The first, which is the most dense, had a volume of 0.4. This is equivalent to a large grenade. The magnitude of the second and third earthquakes was 0.3 and 0.0.

Earthquakes of less than 2.5 magnitude are not usually felt but can be recorded by seismographs.

There are hundreds of thousands of similar small earthquakes each year, although they are rare around Cornwall. Cornwall is used more for earthquakes caused by human activities in the Redroth region.
