Magnitude 5.3 earthquake, Banten tremors, BPBD: No damage report

TEMPO.CO, Lebak – The Regional Disaster Mitigation Center in Lebak, Banten, has not received a report of damage following the 5.3-magnitude earthquake on Saturday 12 March at 12:31 local time.

“So far, there is no report of casualties or losses due to the earthquake,” Acting Chief of BBBD Lebak, Phoebe Rzeki Pratama, as reported by Antara on March 12, said.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km, latitude 7.19 south, longitude 105.98 east, and 41 km southwest of Al-Bayia. The meteorological agency, BMKG, stated that the earthquake showed no possibility of a tsunami.

“We can be sure that the tectonic earthquake was relatively safe, not causing damage to homes,” Phoebe added.

People felt the earthquake from inside their homes but it lasted for a few seconds. People living on the south coast of Lebak Regency, near the epicenter, ran out of home.

But the activities of the people living on the Bay coast were relatively normal although they felt the shaking. People there are used to earthquakes, and they do not affect their economic activities. “We are used to earthquakes and we don’t panic a lot,” said Tate, a resident of the eastern suburbs.
