NYT editor-in-chief has resigned following Tom Cotton’s op-ed appeal

The editor of the page of The New York Times, James Bennet, has resigned, A.G. This was announced by the Sulzberger publishing house on Sunday. Bennet’s resignation came next week after the publication of a debate against Republican Sen. Tom Cotton, which drew significant criticism from newspaper staff.
Sulzberger said Jim Dao, the public editor of the publisher’s page, took responsibility for overseeing the editing of the piece, stepping on his head and reassigning it to the newsroom. Katie Kingsbury, another deputy editor page, will oversee the editorial page through the 2020 election.
The tectonic restructuring had shaken up within a week of the nation’s record paper. Staff discussed the process that led to Cotton’s publication and the leadership of The Times.
“While it’s been a painful week for the entire company, it has sparked urgent and important conversations,” Sulzberger wrote to employees announcing the changes.
