The 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:44 p.m. Hawaiian Time / 1:44 a.m. ET, according to the Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The epicenter was found at 22.7S, 170.3E, roughly southeast of the Loyalty Islands.

After the quake, a series of aftershocks with a scale of 4.7 to 5.9 occurred at the same location over the next hour and a half, after the initial quake, according to Express.

After the earthquake, the US Tsunami Warning Center issued a high tide warning for areas within 186 miles of the epicenter on the coast adjacent to Vanuatu.

The warning was withdrawn after further examination after the fact.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to the neighboring islands as a result of the earthquakes.

The 7.0-magnitude quake occurred about 6 miles away and was triggered by seismic activity along a diminishing fault zone or near the tectonic plate boundary between the Australian and Pacific plates, according to the US Geological Survey.
