A slight earthquake felt in NCR Delhi today

A 2.1 magnitude earthquake felt in NCR Delhi.

On Monday, Delhi NCR saw a 2.1-magnitude low earthquake in daily shopping malls and religious sites that reopened in line with the lock-up phase. So far, there have been no reports of any damage to life or property.

The region has experienced a series of minor earthquakes in the past few weeks. On June 3, an earthquake measuring 3.0 degrees felt 17 km east of Faridabad. An earthquake felt a similar force 14 kilometers southeast of Rohtak on June 1.

Today’s earthquake is the ninth of its kind to hit the National Capital Region since April 12.

Before the June earthquakes, a 2.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Rohini, north of Delhi, on May 15. Between April 12 and May 15, six earthquakes were recorded in and around the capital, with a force of 3.5 and a low of 2, according to the monitoring of the National Seismology Center (NCS).

“These are minor earthquakes and they happen naturally. J L Gautam, chief of operations at NCS, said the earthquakes are unpredictable, so it cannot be said that the frequency with which they occurred during the past month is unusual.

More data available at NCS shows more than 65 earthquakes recorded in the National Capital Region between May 2015 and March 2019.

Of these 13 earthquakes, which ranged from their low strength to 1.9 in December 2017 to 3.8 in February 2019, were recorded from Delhi and surrounding areas, Noida and Gurgaon recorded 6 and 1 earthquakes during this period, respectively.

The highest number of earthquakes was near Rohtak, Haryana, with 31 earthquakes between May 2015 and March 2019.
