Santa Clara County, earthquakes in talks for football training complex

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – Santa Clara County and San Jose Earthquakes announced Tuesday that they have entered into an exclusive negotiating agreement to explore the possibility of a long-term lease of a football training complex and training grounds at the county fairgrounds.

County officials said the plan would be to lease approximately 15 acres of fairgrounds to Earthquakes for facilities for their professional team that are part of the Major League Soccer, as well as training grounds and a training site for the Earthquakes Youth team. Academy programme.

Earthquakes initially sent a letter of interest to the county in 2020 about leasing land at the fairgrounds, and Santa Clara County is also considering developing up to six publicly available soccer fields that would adjoin the site leased by Earthquakes.

The exclusive negotiation agreement period will last 12 months for the team and district to analyze potential costs and revenue and produce a proposed development agreement.

San Jose Earthquakes officials were also excited about the proposed construction of new football facilities and stadiums.
