Galaxy-San Diego Loyal tops US Open third round draw

The draw for the third round of the 2022 US Open has been set.

On Friday, 17 of the lowest-ranked MLS teams in the competition participated in the draw, joining the 31 winners who advanced from this week’s second-round results. The third round schedule will take place between April 19-20 and will feature several in-country competitions.

Landon Donovan’s San Diego Loyal team faces their biggest test, facing Donovan’s former team, LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. All-California will see one of 10 MLS clubs meet against a USL Championship competition.

All three Texas-based MLS clubs will play USL teams with FC Dallas hosting FC Tulsa, Austin FC visiting San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley Taurus facing the Houston Dynamo.

FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, Inter Miami, Orlando City and New York Red Bulls will face the opposition of the USL Championship.

San Jose Earthquakes and DC United will need to avoid being caught up in a lower league rivalry, with clubs from the Independent National Football Association facing each other. DC United visits New York-based Flower City Union while San Jose Earthquakes host Bay Cities FC.
