Forty new rules begin despite criticism from airlines, the tourism industry and parliamentarians – BBC News

Despite a wave of criticism, the UK government has pushed for new rules to ensure that most citizens arriving in the UK within two weeks, including British citizens, self-isolate.

Those arriving by plane, ferry or train must provide an address for self-isolation. Those who break the rules could face fines.

Home Secretary Priti Patel says the law is designed to prevent a second wave of coronaviruses. Travel companies, business leaders and some MPs have questioned whether the government’s reasoning and policy can be enforced.

Meanwhile the impact of the pandemic is an increase in caregivers under the age of 18 caring for a relative with a physical or mental condition. The Who Care Care campaign, which supports the needs and rights of young carers, requires a recognized identity card across the UK to help children with carers have the support of local services such as pharmacies.

Huw Edwards introduces BBC News to Ten News transport correspondent Tom Burridge, Health editor Hugh Pym and Jeremy Cooke talking about the challenges facing young carers.
