KCR gives the position 24 hours to decide on the purchase of rice

NEW DELHI: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday set a 24-hour deadline for the center to announce its decision on purchasing the entire rice crop of Telangana.

“I would tell the prime minister to set up a framework for a new agricultural policy and we will also contribute to that. If you don’t, you will be removed and the new government will create a new integrated agricultural policy,” KCR said.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party led by KCR started its protest at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday morning to demand a unified rice purchase policy.

More than 1,000 leaders of the TRS participated in the protest. This is the party’s first public protest in the national capital since 2014.

“I am again requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal with folded hands to buy rice from Telangana as it happens in the case of other countries. We will wait 24 hours for your response. Later, we will set a new course and do whatever is required to protect our farmers. But we will go after you too (Bharatiya Party Janata) and expose your double standards and injustice to farmers.”

The Telangana government has asked the center to purchase all the rice produced in the state. Last year, a delegation of state ministers met with union ministers to make a clear declaration on rice purchases, including quantity.

In March, a TRS delegation alleged that Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal, had insulted Telangana by saying, “You should make it a habit for your state’s people to eat broken rice, but we will not buy boiled rice.” The party demanded an unconditional apology from the Union minister.

KCR said Telangana residents and farmers are ready to fight with the center to protect their rights. The TRS will get the support of all like-minded political parties to mobilize farmers and build a movement unless the BJP government addresses the issues related to farmers. He warned of a strong earthquake shaking the throne of the Sultanate of Delhi.

Rakesh Singh Teket, leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), joined the fight against the Telangana government in New Delhi. He was received by TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha at the KCR headquarters in Delhi.

Rakesh Teket claimed that it was painful to see a country protesting in Delhi in favor of farmers and said the Union government should repent for this. He said that the central government plays national politics with the lives of individuals.
