Sebastian Ferreira won praise with his 4-3 victory over San Jose Earthquakes

The Houston Dynamo beat the San Jose Earthquakes 4-3 on Saturday in a chaotic manner that left coach Paulo Nagamura in awe of his team.

They have an attacking mindset, and they create different challenges for our team, but I think the players understood the strategy that was going to go into the game. Designated player Sebastian Ferreira led the team’s offensive effort, starting the scoring in the eighth minute before Darwin Quintero and Tenig Hadby added to the score. Then Ferreira finished the result with a second in the 68th minute, as the team scored four goals.

His performance won Nagamura praise with the coach describing him as “a big piece of the puzzle”.

“Huge, huge. I think Sebas was a big part of that puzzle in Houston and getting two goals today was great,” Nagamura said. “I felt really happy for him. There is room for improvement for sure, but I think achieving the first two goals will give him a boost of confidence and hopefully he can go from there.”

The 24-year-old had played five games before without scoring any goals, but the player is now back.

He said: I tried to calm down because one despairs alone. The coaching staff and my colleagues spoke to me, that I had good matches, that I should not despair, that the goal would come, and it has already come. I hope he keeps showing up often.

“It took a while, but he’s here. So, now let’s hope they come more often and if they come in pairs, I won’t get mad at that either.”

The victory boosted the team’s position at the Western Conference table to sixth place with 11 points in six matches, scoring 3-2-1. Dynamo is now linked with rivals Texas FC Dallas and Austin FC.
