An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred at noon on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. local time near Kokobo, Kokobo County, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea, the US Geological Survey reports. According to the data, the earthquake occurred at an average depth of 146.9 km. The strength of the earthquake may have dampened its great relative depth below the surface, making it feel weak in absolute terms.
