5 local highway bridges reinforced with earthquake

Five bridges on three Los Angeles County Highways have received safety upgrades to make them better equipped to withstand earthquakes.

Caltrans has announced the completion of seismic retrofitting and concrete reinforcement on bridges on three local highways:

Interstate 210: Zachary Padilla Avenue and Vernon Street Horizontal 405 Highway: Jetty Center Drive Under Crossing

The $11 million project began last February and is funded through the state’s Road Repair Accountability Act, or SB1. “Maintaining the structural integrity of the bridges is one of the primary goals of SB1’s funding,” said Tony Tavares, director of Caltrans District 7, in a media statement. “This project … ensures the safety of domestic travelers and supports the efficient and timely movement of goods.”
