Magnitude 4.6 earthquake near Tijuana felt by San Diego residents

An earthquake with an initial magnitude of 4.6 struck Thursday evening near Ensenada, Mexico, the US Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake was reported at 9:30 p.m. in El Sauzal, south of Tijuana, and could be felt as far north as San Diego County. It occurred at a depth of about 8.9 miles, according to the US Geological Survey.

The USGS density map shows that the density of San Diego was level three with little shaking and no damage. In Chula Vista, Tijuana, and Ensenada, intensity levels ranged from four to five with mild or moderate shaking and non or very mild damage.

San Diegans took to Twitter with mixed reactions on whether or not they felt the earthquake.

“Yes, the mission of the tracks of the region. Mirrors are shaking and fans are too,” tweeted @QuackedOnPadres.

Several commentators on the FOX 5 Facebook post said they felt the earthquake from National City to Imperial Beach.

But others did not feel any shaking.

“Nada in Allied Gardens,” tweeted @Jrueman1.

Another comment on Facebook read: “I didn’t feel anything.”

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The US National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed on Twitter that a tsunami was not expected.
