Sonoma Chic Out Earthquake Exercise – April 18

Sonoma County residents are encouraged to participate in the Sonoma County Seismic Training Exercise scheduled for April 18 at 10 a.m., an annual exercise during National Earthquake Preparedness Month. The exercises will provide the community with an opportunity to practice cover-holding, which is the recommended procedure for staying safe when an earthquake strikes.

The county is partnering with local nonprofits to remind residents of the steps they need to take to protect themselves and their families during the earthquake. April 18 also marks the 116th anniversary of the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, one of the most devastating earthquakes in modern history.

An earthquake can strike without warning, at any time of the year, day or night. Everyone needs a preparedness plan, what to do when the ground begins to shake, and how to respond including helping neighbors, families and friends in the time immediately following the earthquake.
