A recent study revealed that the largest earthquake in the world occurred in northern Chile 3800 years ago and caused a huge tsunami that reached New Zealand.

“But we have now found evidence of a rupture of about 1,000 kilometers off the coast of the Atacama Desert, which is massive,” he added.

The professor explained that they found all of these very high and far from land, so it couldn’t have been a storm that put them there.

The team said that excavations at archaeological sites along the coast, including at Pablon de Bica, also found stone buildings that had been destroyed by the waves, with many walls falling toward the seas, likely as a result of strong currents.

Professor Goff said the locals were left with nothing.
