Faith: Reorienting the Resurrection – Echo of Pine and Lake Journal

An earthquake occurred in the resurrection of Christ, as it was said in the Gospel of Matthew. Personally, I’ve never had an earthquake before, but I’m told it’s incredibly confusing and unlike anything you can really imagine.

One person described experiencing an earthquake outdoors and seeing the pavement in a parking lot rolling just like waves in the ocean, almost feeling seasick and powerless just to get balance and stand up.

Whether or not I’ve literally had an earthquake, I think we’re all in a bit of a confusion right now having lived through two years of constant upheaval and upheaval on a global scale.

And in Matthew’s account of the resurrection of Christ, there is a very opposing reaction to this confusion. The first reaction was that “the guards shivered and became like dead.”

The guards were paralyzed with fear. motionless, like gnomes. numbness. frozen. Perhaps it’s as if they were bending inward to drop, cover, and hold on to life as they knew it to – to protect themselves from any of these confusing things going on around them. Fear enveloped them, and they were stuck, just as we can have today.

Fear messages surround us today, too — some of which are very legitimate. There are things that are scary and annoying, and we have to realize and acknowledge them.

But fear cannot have the upper hand. Because you know what fear does – fear separates, fear divides, fear kills. Fear keeps us frozen, disguised and clenched in our fists — in isolation — and we shake our heads and say, “What can I do about it anyway? I’m just one person,” or “It’s really someone else’s problem.”

We stay stuck, confused and dead.

But the women in the story have a different reaction to this massive event. What do they do?

Although they are also afraid, it does not paralyze them. They move, they go, the affirmation of the angel. They listen with uncertainty, even though that is confusing and scary. The Bible says that they go with joy and tell us the good news of Jesus’ resurrection!

They are not trying to survive and cling on; They have a fear. But they don’t let her get the best of them. They are moving forward with confidence and hope. They go and say.

And what happens in their midst they tell others? They have an encounter with the risen Christ which gives them more power. I bet they run faster and more daring after that to share the good news, the new life of the risen Christ for all!

This will change people’s lives forever – this is the re-orientation of the Resurrection. It redirects our confusion and changes the way we live forever.

Could it also be this resurrection force that enables the Ukrainian people in difficult times like war to go on and do what needs to be done as we witness all the brave and horrific stories that break our hearts and continue in our prayers?

We will also celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and reorient our lives this Sunday. We have the power of Christ’s resurrection that liberates us every day of our lives from a confused way of living and from frozen fear.

Christ frees us from the fear that wants to separate and separate us. Through the gift of resurrection, God redirects us, gives us Christ on earth and directs our lives. We are the dear and beloved people of God. There is no need to fear, because Christ with his life has conquered anything that could separate us from the love of God. This is all about Easter!

We have the living Christ who walks with us and talks to us and tells us that we are His. Christ replaces our fear with joy and gives us the gift of new life through his death and resurrection.

This doesn’t mean that we won’t feel fear from time to time, but it does mean that we won’t let fear stop us from what God calls us to do every day because we share God’s love, grace, and freedom with all people.

Let us all be redirected again this Easter by the resurrection of Christ our Lord! Trustworthy!
