An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 jolted southern Bosnia Friday evening, killing one person and injuring several others, local media reports said.

The media quoted a medical source as saying that a 28-year-old woman who was injured when a rock fell on her house in the town of Stolac, near Mostar, died in hospital. Several others sustained minor injuries, including members of the victim’s family.

The quake also destroyed walls and damaged property in several other areas, including Mostar and the town of Ljubinje, according to civil and civil defense authorities.

The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 21:10 GMT and was centered 14 km northeast of Liubingi.

The quake was felt as far away as Belgrade, Zagreb and Skopje, more than 400 km from the epicenter, according to AFP correspondents.

Reports to the US Geological Survey indicated that the quake was felt in Albania and southern Italy.

This was followed by several weaker aftershocks.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center warned that “aftershocks may occur in the coming hours and days.”
