Player ratings like Gloucester, Parks and Pereira lead the hosts to victory
New York City beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 at Yankee Stadium, as goals from Keaton Parks, Gabriel Pereira and Chris Gloucester in the second half drove the home side to the three points they desperately needed.
It was a slow start from both teams, and they entered the first half with a score of 0-0 and six shots combined on goal. San Jose retained the lead in possession, but were unable to reach the finish to secure the advantage.
The second goal 45 became favorable to the hosts after Parks began the dynamic sequence that led to the first goal. The midfielder was linked with Talles Magno on the left, before finding space inside the penalty area to complete a right-footed shot into the upper right corner.
Substitute Pereira followed up with a second goal just five minutes later, working on a ball from Santiago Rodriguez to strike a left-footed strike into the lower left corner.
Gloucester then sealed the score 3-0 in the 88th minute. The defender scored his first-ever goal for NYCFC after taking advantage of a Maxi Rodriguez pass on the left before sending the ball into the opposite corner. Goalkeeper GT Marcinkowski took the plunge, but didn’t stop Gloucester’s effort.
The MLS champions are back on winning ways, climbing to fifth at the Eastern Conference table with 13 points in nine games. Meanwhile, defeat keeps the San Jose Earthquakes at the bottom of the Western Conference in 13th place with six points in nine games.

GK: Shawn Johnson – 8/10 – Tested more in the first half than in the second, but provided the coverage needed. Another clean sheet.
Right-back: Tayvon Gray – 7.5/10 – Solid and eager to participate.
Central Defence: Thiago Martins – 7.5/10 – A regular presence on the right. Two important permits.
Center back: Alex Callens – 8/10 – Strong performance, comprehensive coverage at the back but pushed forward to create.
Left-back: Malte Amundsen – 7.5/10 – Strong presence in the first half, reliable defender on the left but also pushing forward to create the attack.
Right winger: Thiago Andrade – 7/10 – Disappointing, a little low when he was inside the final third. Two shots on goal in 65 minutes of play, but nothing really impressive.
CM: Keaton Parks – 9/10 – starts play and leads to goal before finishing it himself. Great post all the time before you sign up.
Attacking midfielder: Santiago Rodriguez – 7.5/10 – Played all over the field, but didn’t play to his full potential until the final moments of the match. The second goal helped.
CM: Nicolás Acevedo – 7/10 – Another performance out. Active all over the field, but nothing affected the game in favor of New York City.
LW: Talles Magno – 8.5/10 – Strongest attack power. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t get the goal with the first half header, but he played a crucial role in helping others. Help the first goal.
F: Valentin Castellanos – 7/10 – is active in attack, but not his sharpest performance. Two missed chances and a lack of accuracy within the final third.
Sub: Chris Gloucester (For Amundsen, ’55) – 10/10 – Off the bench to score his first game for New York City.

GK: JT Marcinkowski – 7/10 – Strong performance up to New York City’s first goal. He collapsed after the 75th minute, leaving two more to defeat 3-0.
Right-back: Paul Marie – 7.5/10 – Strongest character at the back, four important saves.
Central Defence: Tanner Besson – 7/10 – Another strong performance in the first half before collapsing in the last 20 minutes of the match. Defense too loose to let New York City into key positions.
Central Defence: Francisco Calvo – 7/10 – a good first half. He managed to catch Tati Castellanos on the left, but was frustrated after the first goal.
Left-back: Marcos Lopez – 7/10 – Active defense across the field in the first 75 minutes, but energy slowly waned to inspire the last bits from the NYCFC.
Right winger: Cristian Espinosa – 7.5/10 – Like Castellanos, he actively tried to hit the net but his accuracy disappointed him today.
Midfielder: Jan Gregosch – 7/10 – the strongest of the middle, but he struggled once inside the final third.
Midfield: Eric Remedy – 5.5/10 – A losing figure in the middle of the field. Failed to attack and defend when needed.
CM: Jackson Yueill – 6.5/10 – Disappointing as an attack boost. More than a young prospect, he managed to achieve zero shots in 92 minutes.
Left-back: Jamiro Monteiro – 6.5/10 – Another disappointing performance. The strongest of the first half before losing all hope with a first goal in the 74th minute. He refrained completely from behind after that.
F: Jeremy Ebobisse – 7/10 – mediocre performance, one shot on target in 92 minutes of play because the lone striker is weak.
SUB: Ousseni Bouda (for Gregus, ’85) – N/A
