Kiwi scientist’s research could shake up the field of seismic engineering

Ramhormozian, who received the award at the annual conference of the New Zealand Society of Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE), which was held from April 27-29, said.

Ramhormozian is a Senior Lecturer at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), and has built on the work of Dr Charles Clifton of the University of Auckland and Dr Gregory McCray of the University of Canterbury, developers of the sliding hinge technology.

Clifton and McCrae’s work was a direct response to the Northridge and Kobe earthquake in the mid-1990s, in which buildings sustained far more damage than expected.
