Lakers could land Paul George in LeBron James Trade: Executive

Much of the commercial speculation involving the Los Angeles Lakers this off season has been surrounding Russell Westbrook. With no clear trade in sight, the team may have to consider alternative options. One option would be for the Lakers to move from LeBron James.

He’s still the best player on the team and seems to love being in LA. However, he will be 38 next season and has had more injuries each season. Maybe the Lakers could try to trade him while he still has value. Heavy.com’s Sean Daveney spoke to an Eastern Conference executive who believes the clippers could make sense as a commercial destination for LeBron.

“If LeBron wants to stay in Los Angeles, they can replace him with the Clippers. Remember he met the Clippers in 2010 when he was a free agent and a lot has changed, the Clippers are a different organization now,” said Devine’s CEO. “But if you swap Paul George for LeBron, and you add one of their guys, Brandon Boston is a guy who likes a lot of people, you know, that would be kind of an earthquake but interesting on both sides.”

Does LeBron want to play with the Clippers?

While LeBron does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, he will not be traded to a team unless he wants to play with them. The Clippers would give him the opportunity to stay in Los Angeles, play for a competitor and get coached by a man he respected at Tai Lo, who had already won a championship with him.

However, he doesn’t seem to have any desire to play with the Clippers, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

“I actually brought this up to some folks who might know, is LeBron going to the Clippers?” Lowe said on “The Lowe Post” podcast. And the answer was, ‘Saab no, no Saab.’ “

Obviously feelings can always change or Lowe may have gotten bad information, but he’s one of the most well-connected insiders in the industry, so LeBron probably doesn’t want to play with the Clippers.

If the Lakers can’t figure out a way to fix their roster and get back into an ownership dispute, any move should be on the table, including the LeBron trade. So far, there is no indication that they have an interest in trading it. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, team owner Jenny Boss won’t want to trade LeBron even if he doesn’t sign a new contract this off season.

The Lakers love looking after their stars, and LeBron has helped provide a championship for the team. They wouldn’t be quick to get rid of him after one bad season where he played as one of the best players on the planet. The only way the Lakers will realistically consider his trade is if he says that’s what he wants.
