Earthquake relief operations underway in Tahsel Valley in Balochistan

QUETTA: Relief operations are underway in a valley, Tehsil district of Khuzdar district of Balochistan after the 5.2-magnitude earthquake on Friday, Ari News reported on Sunday.

According to the district administration, relief items have been provided in Arangi and other earthquake-affected villages.

The Levi’s Force and District Administration, which are involved in the relief work, have so far provided tents, blankets and edible items to more than 150 affected families.

About 200 homes were damaged in the earthquake in Tehsil Wade, and dozens of homes were completely destroyed in the earthquake.

The National Seismological Center (NSMC) reported that the earthquake hit Lasbela and other parts of Balochistan province on Friday.

The NSMC said the quake’s epicenter was 80 kilometers north of the city of Pella in Balochistan.

The tremors that struck Wadi Tahsel from Khuzdar damaged several houses in the area.

The tremors caused panic among the residents and prompted people to flee their homes in panic.

Earlier, in October last year, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake in the province of Balochistan killed 22 people and injured more than 200. The deadly earthquake hit parts of Balochistan including Quetta.

According to the National Seismological Center in Islamabad, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Harnai, at a depth of 15 km.

According to Harnai Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hashem, the roofs and walls of more than 100 homes in Harnai and Shahraj have collapsed, trapping many people under the rubble. Dozens of public and private buildings were damaged.

Harnai was the most remote mountainous region in Balochistan affected by the earthquake.
