Federal scientists at Seismology of Canada have confirmed that a 3.1-magnitude earthquake was documented at 10:12 a.m.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 11 km north of Almonte.

The agency reported that the shaking was “lightly felt” in both Arnprior and Almonte.

No damage has been reported.

Light earthquakes are common in eastern Ontario and western Quebec.

The agency lists several earthquakes since 1914 in the region that were above 5.0 on the Richter level, a moderate level that can cause minimal damage to buildings and other structures.
