The blood moon causes severe earthquakes all over the world

The British Geological Survey (BGS) explains the relationship between the last blood moon and earthquakes.

On May 16, a lunar eclipse occurred for a brief moment during this year’s fifth full moon. This resulted in a reddish tinge to the extraterrestrial body as seen from Earth.

Stargazers and skywatchers around the world have observed the phenomenon known as the blood moon.

Earthquakes of magnitude 5.8 were recorded around the world about 12 hours after the full moon. According to the USGS, there are still no major earthquakes after the full moon.

The USGS calculates the significance of earthquakes using an equation that determines the magnitude, pager alert level, and “did you feel it” responses.

Earthquakes recorded on May 17 after the full moon include:

south of Bengkulu, Indonesia, with a strength of 5.8 degrees southeast of Katsura, Japan, of 5.6 degrees south of New Zealand with a strength of 5.3.

A week before the blood moon appeared, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake was detected in Argentina along one of Earth’s most active fault lines.

The USGS lists the following large earthquakes in the week leading up to the blood moon:

Near the coast of central Peru on May 12 with a magnitude of 5.4 northwest San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina on May 10 with a magnitude of 6.8 southwest of Lurengao, Papua New Guinea on May 9 with a magnitude of 6.3 southwest of Yonaconi, more Japanese earthquakes were detected in May 9 with a strength of 6.3 recently

The National Earthquake Information Center detects about 20,000 earthquakes annually worldwide, or about 55 earthquakes per day, thanks to advances in technology.

The USGS adds that improvements in communications and increased interest in natural disasters have allowed information about earthquakes to reach the public more quickly and efficiently than in the past.

The USGS has also indicated that about 16 major earthquakes are expected each year – 15 with a magnitude of 7.0 and one of a magnitude of 8.0, but over the past four to five decades it has been the long-term average for the number of major earthquakes. It was exceeded 12 times.

Full Moon – Seismic Activity Relationship

BGS, along with other recognized scientific organizations around the world, establish an interrelationship between seismic activity and lunar activity. The USGS has not yet identified a link between the two phenomena.

This phenomenon, known as Earth tides, has daily (12 hour) and two week (14 day) periods, during which once the forces stop working, the body returns to its original shape.

The USGS defines tides as seismic activity in which the Earth’s surface rises and falls by a few inches. Ocean tides move more dynamically, about a meter or more.
