California earthquake hits Los Angeles as tremors spark panic: ‘Windows shook!’ | United Kingdom | News

The earthquake was large enough to be recorded in the state’s warning system, which monitors large earthquakes. The USGS measured the earthquake’s strength at 4.3 on the Richter scale.

Residents told the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center about the earthquake.

Someone said, “Slow build, then a strong jolt and then a softer tremor after which it continued. My bookcase, windows, and doors shook. I didn’t hear it coming.”

Another said, “This woke me up. Nice rocking back and forth and boring noises? Not sure how to describe it but not as loud as others have been. Just wish there wasn’t a bigger sound in the way.”

A CBS Los Angeles report on Twitter said the quake triggered the US Geological Survey’s warning system.

CBS LOS ANGELES: The USGS records a 4.3 earthquake with an epicenter 11 miles from the community of Trona in San Bernardino County, and it occurred around 2:23 a.m. USGS says USGS_ShakeAlert has been activated. Didn’t you feel it?”

Trona is located about 170 miles north of Los Angeles.

The shaking was felt at approximately 2.23 a.m. local time. Los Angeles has not experienced an earthquake greater than 3.0 on the Richter scale in the past 10 days.

Earthquakes are fairly common in California and Nevada, with an average of about 25 earthquakes per year with magnitudes between 4.0 and 5.0.

Some on Twitter seemed more upset by the news than anything else. One user complained that he wouldn’t sleep with a picture of a dog screaming into a pillow.

He said, “When the #LAearthquake earthquake hits Los Angeles and you know you’re not going to get any more sleep before your alarm goes off at 6AM #Earthquake”

Another said, “Welp, that explains why I woke up.”

Others on Twitter said they did not feel the earthquake.

One user said: “Moreno Valley, Riverside County…nothing here, but I’m awake.

“I’m a SoCal native girl, so I’m used to them.”
