The Peru earthquake was recorded on US seismographs at a distance of 5000+ kilometers

The 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the Terrapata region in southern Peru was strong enough to be recorded on seismometers in Kentucky, USA, about 5,300 kilometers away.

MSN reported that the earthquake was recorded on several monitoring devices, including one at the University of Kentucky and one in Hardin County, about 140 km west of the university.

The earthquake occurred at 8:02 am local time, at a depth of 212 km.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

“The information we have so far is that there is no damage,” Hernando Tavera, chief executive of Peru’s Institute of Geophysics, told a local radio station via Reuters.

“From the level of severity on the surface, there should be no damage.”
