NRC helps make schools safer in Iran

TEHRAN – The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is conducting Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities to ensure the safety and security of children in Iranian schools.

Iran is the third most earthquake-prone country in the world and experiences, on average, 100 earthquakes every month. While most of them were small in size, others were large. For example, in 2018, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Kermanshah, and in 2003 a 6.6-magnitude earthquake killed 34,000 people in Bam, Kerman Province.

Schools should be safe places so that children are encouraged to learn. If they do not feel safe or comfortable, they may stop coming to their lessons. While we cannot prevent earthquakes, we can work with students and teachers so that they know how to stay safe when an earthquake strikes.

Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities are part of a pilot project implemented by the Norwegian Refugee Council with generous support from EU humanitarian aid. So far, 17 schools have benefited from such interventions. These schools are now safer places for children and their teachers. The NRC looks forward to scaling up disaster risk reduction interventions in the near future.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has now equipped a school in Mashhad with fire alarms so that children can evacuate in case of a fire and no children are injured, which could lead to disasters beyond floods and earthquakes.

Built more than thirty years ago, without a standard heating system and broken windows that could not be fixed in recent years, the Shuhadiya Enqlab School was not safe for 300 Afghani and Iranian boys aged 12 to 15.

Abolfazl Kamali, Deputy Minister of Education for International Affairs and Schools Abroad, stated that about 527,000 foreign students are studying in Iran, the majority of whom are Afghans and the rest are from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iraq and other countries.

The head of the International Affairs Department of the Ministry of Education, Gholamreza Karimi, said in March 2020, that Iran spends about 20 trillion riyals (nearly $77 million) each year on educating foreign students residing in the country.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
