38 earthquakes were recorded, amid cancellation of volcano volcano

MANILA, Philippines – A total of 38 tectonic volcanic earthquakes have been recorded from the western sides of the Cancun volcano on the island of Negros in the last 24 hours as they emit white steam-laden columns that have risen 300 meters, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Wednesday.

According to the Phivolcs newsletter at 8 am, an earthquake measuring 3.6 at 7 pm Tuesday was recorded by the Philippine Seismic Network and felt it had a density of 3 in La Carlota City and a density of 2 in Pago, Negros Occidental.

The activity in the aperture consisted of a moderate emission of white steam-laden columns that rose 300 meters before being washed away southwest. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions were measured at an average of 438 tons per day on June 13, 2020, ”Phivolcs said.

“Earth-deformation data from continuous GPS measurements indicate a slight contraction in the lower and middle slopes since January 2020. Short-term electronic tilt monitoring on the southeastern sides has recorded a continuous contraction in the lower slopes but inflation in the intermediate slopes since April 2020” . She added.

According to Phivolcs, these parameters indicate that aqueous or magmatic thermal activity has occurred under the edifice.

Alert level 1, out of a maximum of 5, remains elevated, indicating that the volcano is in an “abnormal state and has entered a period of turmoil”.

On Tuesday, the seismic network in Kanlun volcano recorded 104 tectonic volcanic earthquakes from the western sides during the 24-hour observation period. She also noticed a “weak emission of white steam-laden columns” that had risen to 300 meters before being washed away northwest and southeast.

Entry into the permanent danger zone with a diameter of four kilometers is strictly prohibited due to the additional possibilities of sudden and dangerous explosions driven by steam or explosions.

Phivolcs told Civil Aviation authorities to advise pilots to avoid flying near the top of the volcano because tossing as the materials that are released into the air from any sudden volcanic eruption can be dangerous to aircraft.
