(Yicai Global) June 10 – A 6.0-magnitude earthquake this morning jolted Maikang, located in the high foothills of the Himalayas in southwestern Sichuan Province. There were no reports of injuries so far.

The Aba Tibetan Autonomous Region and Qiang Autonomous Region, with its capital, Merkang, are highly vulnerable to earthquakes. On June 1, the city of Lushan, located about 440 kilometers southeast of Merkang, was hit by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake. The epicenter of the 8-magnitude Wenchuan earthquake that devastated the region in 2008 is only 180 kilometers away.

Rescue workers are already on the site, helping to relocate residents and clear the rubble.
