Investigation: Thousands of illegal trees have been felled to build IKEA’s flat empire

IKEA plants cook more than 20 million cubic meters a year. This works for about a second time as a tree. The company has told consumers that the wood in its products is sustainable forest. But a major study by this program and the environmental organization Earthsight has found that some of the wood that ends up in Ikea’s most popular products has been illegally cut. The wood comes from the beautiful forests of the Carpathian Mountains on the border between Ukraine and Romania. There is a growing problem of corruption and illegal registration.
