Hundreds of other apartment owners last week took their complaints to Parliament.

“People are willing to do this,” Geraldine Murphy of the Wellington Inner Population Association says. “It is just a measure, they cannot do it. So if the government wants to do this, the government must help.”

The Minister of Construction will not be obligated to review or additional assistance, saying that the loan program provides assistance.

“We are helping the owners of private buildings,” says Construction Minister Jenny Salisa. “Given that these public funds should be fair to our taxpayers.”

The loan program is expected to start in October.
