Scientists believe that Florence concert goers + the instrument may have caused a small earthquake in southeast Berlin.

On Friday night, residents of Neukölln in Berlin said they felt a small tremor in the ground around 8:58 p.m., which led some to believe that an unprecedented earthquake had hit the area according to German outlet rbb24.

Several seismic stations picked up the quake as a 1.4-magnitude earthquake that Skapsky says is different from a normal earthquake.

“A normal earthquake will be shorter and with higher frequency,” he told rbb24. “Maybe the references go back to the concert.”

At the time of the jolt, concertgoers were rocking Florence + The Machine although it’s unclear what the song was, the playlist suggests they may have been playing Dog Days Over or Free according to Uproxx.

“Having attended Florence and the Instrumental Concert in the past, you can confirm that this is probably true,” Sarah wrote on Twitter.

An alleged attendee at the party told rbb24 that around 9pm the fans simultaneously jumped causing vibrations in the ground.

It’s possible that the vibrations were from the concert because a normal earthquake of this magnitude cannot be felt by most people, Skapsky said. It is believed that the floor of the place may have absorbed the crowds who jumped and dissipated the energy on the surrounding ground causing the locals to feel the earthquake.

Although the concert causing an earthquake is unheard of, it is not the first time that an event has caused a small tremor.

In May, a Garth Brooks concert in Louisiana caused a small tremor in the ground as fans swayed. In 2011, a concert for the Foo Fighters sent small vibrations to the ground in Auckland, New Zealand.
