New Delhi: With a series of light earthquakes that have hit the national capital in the recent past, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has ordered a structural review of high-rise buildings. In an effort to ensure the seismic stability of high-rise buildings within its jurisdiction, the Civil Authority sent notices to groups and institutions to submit structural review reports.

“In order to ensure the seismic stability of the buildings, the SDMC has started identifying high-rise buildings and issuing notices requesting a structural review report,” the Press agency quoted the agency as saying.

“An inspection was conducted by the engineers of the construction department of the Sani Valley Housing Association, Sector 12, the Delhi Housing Association and Sector 19 of Dwarka to verify the amendment work on Sunday,” she said.

The Civil Authority also said that it had previously appointed a structural consultant to strengthen buildings and make them safe from earthquakes. The chancellor’s proposals, which included adjustments to these structures, are expected to be completed within eight months. “The Sun Valley community was built in 2003 on land designated by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Over time, cracks in its columns and beams arose and reinforcements were uncovered,” said the SDMC statement.

The Civil Commission campaign can be seen against the backdrop of a series of earthquakes that struck the NCR in the recent past. Earlier this month, three earthquakes, ranging from 2.9 to 4.6 on the Richter scale NCR, struck within five days.
