The Congress on Tuesday put aside speculation about any rift between the MLAs amid the ongoing Maharashtra crisis as the big old party is part of the ruling alliance with Shiv Sena and the National Congress Party (NCP). Speaking to reporters, Maharashtra Congress Chairman Nana Patul said the party’s MLAs are united and the current turmoil is a “Sina affair”.

“We have the MLAs with us, with the Congress… It is a matter of Shiv Sena, they can settle their affairs, and their leader Uddhav Thackeray (Sena Chief Minister and Chief Minister of Maharashtra) takes over,” he was quoted by ANI news agency as saying. .

Patul criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-ruled Gujarat, calling the region “a focal point of the earthquake (Maharashtra political crisis)”.

The Maharashtra Congress Chairman said Maha Vikas Agadi’s coalition government in Maharashtra would get through the current impasse and win the same.

Patul’s comments come hours after Congress leaders and Maharashtra government ministers Balasaheb Thawrat and Ashok Chavan met with Thackeray at his residence ‘Varsha’ in Mumbai. The meeting was also attended by NCP Head of State and Minister Jayant Patel.

The crisis started after Sena Leader and Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde went along with some MLAs in isolation and later found out that they were camping in a hotel in the BJP-ruled city of Surat in Gujarat.

Shinde later shared a tweet on “Hindutva,” saying he would never shy away from Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideas. At the same time, Sena removed him from his position as party leader in the Maharashtra legislature and appointed Mumbai MLA Ajay Chowdhury as his successor.

Sina MLAs Milind Narvikar and Ravindra Fatak went to Surat to meet with the rebel minister, but Shinde’s last stand is about forming an alliance with the BJP.
