The WHO is speaking in the European Parliament about the COVID-19 response

On 25 June, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Dr Hand Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, discussed the fight against COVID-19 and the global response in the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and highlighted the leadership of the European Union at this unprecedented time.

“The EU is in a unique position to provide global leadership in defining the ‘new normal’ as part of the global recovery,” Dr Tedros said.

He reminded parliamentarians that “although the situation in Europe has improved, it is still deteriorating globally”, adding that “Less than 10,000 cases have been reported in the first month of this WHO epidemic. Almost 4 million cases have been reported in the last month.”

The pandemic shows how crucial it is for governments at all levels, including local governments, to strengthen their capacity for prevention, preparedness, and response.

But plans for recovery after COVID-19 and reducing the risk of future epidemics must go further upstream than early detection and control of the disease epidemic – “they must also reduce our environmental impact to reduce the risk at source,” Dr. Tedros stressed.

In this regard, Dr. Tedros welcomed the team approach to Europe and the European Union’s plans for a greener recovery, bringing nature back into our lives. He also praised the Global Campaign to Promise a Response to the EU-launched coronavirus, which has raised 9.8 billion euros so far, and said more is needed.

Dr Kluge emphasized the complementarity and synergy between the European Work Program, entitled “Joint Action for Better Health”, supporting the Thirteenth General Work Program of the WHO (WHW13) and the EU4Health Program of the European Commission.

Dr Kluge warned parliamentarians of a second wave in Europe and that countries should be prepared. In this regard, he announced that the WHO European Region has launched an ACTION REVIEW, gathering lessons learned in order to develop policy options to help countries prepare for autumn.

The regional director stressed that “health systems based on strong primary health care are the foundation of health security and universal health insurance” and that national routine immunization programs must be maintained during a pandemic, he said.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
