Five people were killed in a new earthquake in eastern Afghanistan

Five people were killed and more than 10 others were injured, Friday, in an earthquake that hit the eastern province of Paktika, Afghan Health Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman told Sputnik.

Earlier on Friday, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border at 01:43 GMT. The source of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

“Unfortunately, we again have bad news from Paktika. Today at 10 am (5:30 GMT) there was another earthquake in Jayan district, Zaman said, adding that more than five people were killed, and more than 10 people were injured.

On Wednesday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, killing more than 1,000 people and injuring 1,500 others. The provinces of Paktika and Khost, which border Pakistan, were among the worst affected areas. Taliban leader Hebatullah Akhundzada has urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to help Kabul deal with the aftermath of the earthquake.
