Taliban says it will not interfere with earthquake aid in Afghanistan

The Taliban administration in Afghanistan said, on Saturday, that it will not interfere with any international aid that will be directed to the citizens suffering from earthquakes. Afghanistan was hit by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday that killed more than 1,000 people. “Whether it is the World Food Program or UNICEF or any other organization … the international community or the United Nations … they will distribute themselves,” said Khan Muhammad Ahmed, a senior official in the hard-hit Paktika province. AFP report on Saturday.

Health Minister Qalandar Abbad visited some of the earthquake-hit areas in the country.

“The whole society is mentally and psychologically damaged,” Abbad told AFP.

“I think the situation is critical now,” he added. “The community is completely damaged here.”

According to official data, about 10,000 homes were damaged by the earthquake and millions were damaged in the process. While the government was not able to cover a large area with its resources, international aid was a huge boon to the people affected by the disaster.
