Madikeri: Days after an earthquake, Kodago residents experienced another moderate earthquake Tuesday morning at 9.45 am. According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC), the magnitude of this earthquake was 3.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 5.2 km northwest of Im Chimpo village, Paraji Gramma Panchayat in Madikeri taluk in Kodagu district adjacent to Dakshina Kannada district. Earlier on Saturday morning, Kodago residents witnessed earthquakes. According to the authorities, it was a 2.3-magnitude earthquake. The epicenter was 4.7 km northwest of Karikeh Gramma Panchayat in Madikeri Taluk in Kodago District. Officials reported that according to the seismic intensity map of the said earthquake from the epicenter, the observed intensity is moderate and the earthquake may be felt up to a maximum radial distance of 40-50 kilometers from the epicenter. This type of earthquake does not cause any harm to the local community, although there may be slight shaking that is observed locally. The epicenter is located in seismic zone III and the area is free of any structural discontinuities according to the tectonic map.
