“Everyone in the house this dog belonged to was killed in the earthquake. The neighbors said they took him with them to feed/take care of him. He keeps coming back to the destroyed house and crying,” the video caption read.

According to the publication, the photo was taken in Oshki village in Jayan, Paktika.

Twitter users were in tears at the heartbreaking photo of a dog desperately searching for its owners. They said the dog deserved a loving and nurturing home, and many even offered to adopt the dog.

One user said: “We humans don’t deserve dogs.”

Another wrote, “I hope he finds an owner who loves and cares for him just as he was before. Disappointed with what happened in Afghanistan. May God give him all the strength.”

A strong earthquake rocked the mountainous region of Afghanistan early Wednesday morning (India time). The tremors were felt in India and Pakistan.

Dozens were killed and many homes destroyed in the 6.1-magnitude quake.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the earthquake occurred just after 01:30 (21:00 GMT Tuesday), about 44 kilometers from the city of Khost, while people were asleep.
