Introductory meeting of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Tuberculosis
The introductory meeting of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Tuberculosis (STAG-TB) was held on 24-25. June 2020 STAG-TB, which consists of 15 eminent experts from the Ministries of Health, national tuberculosis programs, academic and research institutions, civil society organizations and the community and patients with TB. The group is led by Dr. Ariel Pablos-Méndez as chair and provides strategic advice to the Director-General of the WHO and the Global Tuberculosis Program on his response to tuberculosis.
In his speech, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros emphasized the important strategic role of STAG-TB in efforts to stop TB, especially in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic. He said, “Even in this difficult time, when COVID-19 is threatening the world, the WHO remains committed to meeting anti-TB targets and launching high-level action and investment. You must stick to the commitment to address all infectious disease threats and reach the three billion billion targets despite the COVID-19 crisis. The meeting was opened by Dr. Ren Minghui, Assistant Director-General of the WHO, Universal Health Insurance Sector, Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases.
