Sichuan finishes highest level of emergency response to strong earthquake that killed 93 people, to focus on reconstruction

Seven days later, southwest China’s Sichuan Province ended its highest level of emergency response on Monday after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked the province’s Luoding county and killed 93 as of Sunday and will focus on reconstruction.

After several rounds of search and rescue operations, those affected by the earthquake were quickly moved to safe areas; Infrastructure is under repair, and minor disasters have also been checked, according to a notification published by the Sichuan Emergency Response Administration on Monday.

The Sichuan government decided to end the highest level of emergency response issued on September 5, and shift its focus to reconstruction, as well as the transitional resettlement of people.

The earthquake had claimed 93 lives as of 5 p.m. Monday, and 25 people were still missing, according to official statistics.

The media reported that as of Monday morning, Luoding City had recorded a total of 2,715 aftershocks.
